About Plain Tax

Plain Tax is a small set of free, independent UK tax calculators for people who work for themselves: sole traders, contractors, company directors, CIS subcontractors and small landlords. No sign-up, no adverts in the way, and the numbers are shown with their working.

How the numbers are checked

Every calculator reads its rates from a single file that is checked against GOV.UK each tax year and after each Budget (last check: 20 September 2026 for 2026/27). Bands are for England, Wales and Northern Ireland; Scottish income tax bands differ. The calculators give estimates, not advice — if your situation is unusual, talk to an accountant.

Plain Tax is a trading name of World Gig Insider Ltd, registered in England and Wales (company number 17309912), 66 Paul Street, London EC2A 4NA. We are not an accountancy firm and are not regulated by any accountancy body.

How we make money

Some "next step" links are affiliate links (we say so next to them), and we sell a couple of spreadsheets. That is it. We do not sell e-mail addresses.
